A Letter to MAGA Voters
MAGA voters, you have been misled.
You have been lied to by those who said they were fighting for you. Politicians are using your frustrations and anger to get your votes, but they are not solving your problems.
It is wrong.
It is unfair.
And it will only change if you are willing to see it.
Trump said that if you elected him, he would take on the "deep state" and "drain the swamp"” You voted him in. You gave him the Senate and House majority. Republicans had all of the power. What did they accomplish?
They didn't solve our nation's debt. They increased it.
They didn't get dark money or special interests out of politics. They embraced it.
They didn't fix immigration or the border. They campaigned on it.
Republicans had all of the power, and they didn't do a single thing that they promised you they would. As a result, Republicans lost the House in 2018. They lost the Senate and White House in 2020.
Did that make those politicians change their ways? No.
Those infrastructure projects happening across the country that Republican Representatives keep trying to take credit for? They voted against it.
The CHIPS and Science Act, which brought high-tech manufacturing back to the United States and created over 850,000 jobs, was voted against.
Reduced healthcare costs, including lower prescriptions? Yeah, they voted against that too.
Republican politicians acted like America would collapse without them and that, this time, they would really make a difference if only you would give them a majority again. And you did. You gave them the House majority in 2022.
What have Republicans accomplished with that majority?
Nothing. They admit it too. House Republicans continue to say they have accomplished nothing with their majority and that they don't deserve it. They have presided over the least productive House in a century without solving any of your problems.
Worst of all, Republican politicians have continued their fear-mongering and their lies.
They claim crime is out of control, saying it is rising all across the nation. But that is a lie.
When Trump was President, homicides had the largest spike in US history. Today, crime has fallen for the last two years in a row, and violent crime is at a 50-year low, lower than at any point during Trump’s presidency. Instead of celebrating our nation moving in the right direction, they lie to you to keep you donating to their campaigns.
Republicans claim Biden opened the border and stopped all of Trump’s great policies. What policies? Trump and Republicans refused to tackle immigration reform while they had all of Congress and the White House. All Trump had was a pandemic which let him temporarily enact strict border rules. When the COVID emergency ended, so did those rules.
While Congress failed to find a solution, Biden enacted the Circumvention of Lawful Pathways rule, which would have effectively shut down the border and stopped asylum-seeking between ports of entry. The rule was taken to court and blocked. Biden took over 120 additional actions to improve the border, but the president's power is limited in this area. Congress owns immigration reform.
When a bipartisan group of lawmakers worked on a conservative border bill, MAGA politicians were determined to torpedo it. Speaker Johnson refused to participate in the drafting process and all MAGA lawmakers agreed the bill was dead on arrival before they ever had a chance to read it. Trump specifically told them to kill the bill. They did.
That bill would have made a real difference at the border, including automatic border shutdowns. It didn’t include a single progressive item: no amnesty, no increases to legal immigration, and asylum even became harder to obtain in this bill. And yet Republicans killed the bill for politics. They killed the bill to keep the problem going so that they could campaign on it.
Fentanyl trafficking and overdoses spiked while Trump was President. Did you hear Trump, or any Republican, talk about it back then or see them attempt to solve the problem? No.
That border bill had measures to better combat the trafficking of Fentanyl into the US. It also would have hired more border patrol agents. But again, Republicans killed that bill.
President Biden has taken measures with other nations, including China, to crack down on the production of Fentanyl. He’s taken measures to make it easier to investigate and prosecute Fentanyl related crimes. And he has taken measures to be able to sanction any organizations that help with the production, funding, or trafficking of the drug. President Biden is taking this epidemic far more seriously than Trump ever has.
Is there inflation? Yes, but the whole world is dealing with it because it was the result of the global pandemic. The US has handled it the best. We have the best economic recovery in the world and are the only country with real wage growth through the recovery. Unemployment has stayed under 4% for 27 straight months. A feat not seen since 1953.
Unfortunately, prices are still higher, especially with groceries and gas. But what are Republicans doing to help you with that? Democrats attempted to pass numerous versions of a bill that would stop oil companies from price gouging. Republicans blocked them every time.
Democrats attempted to extend the child tax credit to help families manage the higher costs, but Republicans blocked that, too.
None of this has anything to do with a so-called “War on American Energy.” The US is producing more oil, natural gas, and propane than ever before and more than any other nation on Earth. Biden hasn’t stopped US energy; he has unleashed it.
Biden even paused new natural gas exports to non-free trade agreement nations to give the government time to research and update its estimates on the impact. One of the main issues being researched is how those exports would affect prices for Americans. Republicans want to undo this pause to help corporations make more money, no matter how much it may negatively impact the nation.
Republicans have even made you fear gun control reform. Acting as if the Democrats are coming for your guns and want to take away your 2nd Amendment rights. And yet, Biden has adjusted gun control regulations in a way that has caused gun deaths to drop every year of his presidency. Has anyone taken away your guns during that time? Is it bad that fewer Americans are being killed?
All of this fear-mongering is designed to make you vote against your own best interests. To make you willing to elect a presidential candidate and a movement that wants to systematically dismantle our democratic foundations, that wants to take away your rights. All while claiming they’re doing it for the greater good.
Politicians have conditioned you to believe that supporting your party is more important than doing what is best for your nation or even yourself. It isn’t. Vote for yourself. Vote for what is best for our nation. And vote against those who are misleading you purely for their own power and wealth.
It may feel hard to vote for someone with a “D” next to their name on the ballot, but it will not change who you are or what you believe. It will simply ensure that politicians stop lying and taking advantage of you. It will make your Republican party move down a better path for a better future.
