Blood on Republican Hands
Another shooting, more dead, and it could have been prevented. If Republicans won't act, vote them all out.
“There are armed police officers in banks. Why? Because we want to protect the money we save.
Why on earth do we protect a stupid deposit more than our children?”
That was Ted Cruz after the Tennessee school shooting two weeks ago. Yesterday, in Kentucky, a shooter armed with an AR-15 style rifle killed 5 people in a bank and wounded several others.
Tragically, it is now proven that banks are no more safe in America than schools, or shopping centers, or movies, or concerts, or streets, or anywhere else because there are too many guns and too many people willing to use them.
Cruz made this statement while pushing a bill that would grant funding to add armed staff to all schools. His claim, like many other Republicans, is that if we had armed staff in schools, then school shootings wouldn’t happen.
We know that isn’t true.
The Nashville school, where six people were killed, regularly had armed staff and teachers. The school shooting happened anyway. Those armed staff did not stop the shooter, the police did. Three of the victims were nine year old children.
Here we are. Day after day, mass shooting after mass shooting, Republicans offer their “thoughts and prayers”. They say that now isn’t the time for legislation, it is the time for mourning.
There is a mass shooting every single day in America. There is no time for mourning alone. No more waiting, no more lies, it is time to talk about our gun problem and pass sensible legislation.
147 mass shootings and over 10,000 people dead from guns so far this year. The bank shooting wasn’t even the only shooting in Louisville yesterday, there were several.
Mitch McConnell, from Kentucky, has received $1.3 million from the NRA. I’m not sure how much death finally outweighs that donation amount, but tragically we aren’t there yet. McConnell comes in 14th in size of NRA donations.
The top 10 are:
Mitt Romney(UT): $13.6 million
Richard Burr(NC): $7 million
Roy Blunt(MO): $4.5 million
Thom Tillis(NC): $4.4 million
Marco Rubio(FL): $3.3 million
Joni Ernst(IA): $3.1 million
Rob Portman(OH): $3 million
Todd C Young(IN): $2.9 million
Bill Cassidy(LA): $2.9 million
Tom Cotton(AR): $2 million
The GOP politicians have been paid to look the other way no matter how many people are shot and killed, no matter the age of the victims. It is time to call them out. Every day we need to remind America how much money these politicians are taking. How much it cost for them to be ok with thousands of people, and children, being murdered.
The far right base has been programmed to see any gun legislation as the government making its move to enslave the public. Extreme rhetoric used by populists to win votes has long term consequences.
We Need More Guns - 400 million guns in America and only 330 million people, 260 million of which are adults.
Good guys walking around with guns will stop gun violence. - Data shows the more guns carried in public, the more shootings.
Guns don’t kill people, people kill people - Then why does data from other comparable countries with far fewer guns show fewer murders and less violent crime
My 2nd Amendment Right - That amendment was for militias, it also says “well regulated”. Both concepts were upheld for over 200 years before conservative judges found new ways to interpret the Constitution.
Republicans can, and will, make any excuse possible in order to not pass any meaningful gun reform. We can spend endless days, weeks, and months showing the data that proves Republican excuses don’t pass muster. They will simply come up with new ones.
That leaves only one solution: Republicans cannot have the majority in The House, Senate, or have the Presidency. For if they do, Americans will continue to die.
Ban AR-15 style weapons.
Universal Background Checks
Gun Registration
Red Flag Laws
Ban magazines over 10 rounds
Require proper and safe gun storage
All sensible regulations, all supported by the majority of Americans and the majority of gun owners. These regulations passed at a federal level could reduce gun deaths by 70%. Over 30,000 lives could be saved each year if politicians finally take action.
The next shooting isn’t a question of if; only a question of when, where, and who will die.
